Dr.B.Dharmalingam

Chair Professor

Prof. B. Dharmalingam is currently working as Chair Professor, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Chair and the Advisor, Alagappa Institute of Skill Development, Alagappa University. Formerly he worked as Dean, Faculty of Education, Director - Alagappa Institute of Skill Development and Professor and Head Department of Economics and Rural Development, Alagappa University. He has more than 30 years of academic experience. His areas of Teaching and Research includes Vocational Education, Sociology, Women’s Studies and Rural Development. He has served in three Universities of our State in various capacities namely Alagappa University, Karaikudi, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli and Tamil University, Thanjavur.

He has 26 years of productive services in Alagappa University in various academic and administrative positions in Centre for Women’s Studies, Centre for Rural Development, Department of Economics and Rural Development, Centre for Nehru Studies, Department of Fine Arts and Department of Tourism and Hotel Management.

He completed 21 research projects at various levels. His research findings were treated as policy documents by the National / State / District authorities. He has published extensively more than 100 research papers in reputed National and International journals/ book chapters. He produced seven Ph.D. scholars and another five in a row. Further, he acted as resource person for more than 100 programmes.

As a mark of recognition of his passion on empowerment of rural Youth and Women, in 2013, he was appointed as the Director of the ‘Alagappa Institute of Skill Development’ (AISD).

To his credit in the field of Skill Education, the British Council (India) has invited him as one among ten members in the country and he participated in the UK Seminar cum Study Tour on “Improving Employer Learner Engagement in Vocational Education” during 15th-17th November, 2016 at Birmingham, U.K. He is also the recipient of Alagappa Excellence Award for Research (2018) from Alagappa University, Adarsh Vidhya Saraswathi Rastriya Puraskar Award (2019) from the Global Management Council, Ahamedabad and Dr. Radhakrishnan Award (2018) from Deivanaipriya Kalai Mandram, Chennai.

More than three decades of his service as Researcher, Teacher and Administrator in three Universities of Tamil Nadu has made him as Educational Innovator at all his endeavours. At present, he is being the instrumental to the University in all its activities of empowering rural Youth and Women through Skill Education and ideology of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya.

1. Organized a one day National Level Symposium on Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay : Social & Economic Thoughts on 11.02.2020
2. Organized an e-Quiz on Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay’s Ekatma Manav Darshan in order to disseminate the principles of Panditji related to Integral Humanism and Bharathiya Culture from 23.07.2020 to 30.07.2020
3. Organized a National Webinar on ‘National Education Policy – 2020: Perspectives on Excellence in Higher Education’ on 21.08.2020
4. Organized an International Webinar on ‘Time for New Swadeshi Economic Paradigm in India’ on 11.09.2020
5. Organized a Special Lecture on Atmanirbhar Bharat & Interaction Meet with Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Study group members on 25.01.2021
6. Organized a National Webinar on Relevance of Integral Humanism in the Present Context and Releasing of a Book on Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay – Bharathiya Ideologies and Contributions in commemoration of Death Anniversary of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay on 11.02.2021

To observe and celebrate the birth anniversary of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay on 25th September every year as ‘Integral Humanism Day’. As part of this, competitions like elocution, debates, paper presentations, drawing and short-film making on the ideologies of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay will be conducted for the students of University Departments and Affiliated Colleges. An official approval got from Alagappa University to celebrate birth anniversary of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay on 25th September every year as ‘Integral Humanism Day’. This has been officially notified in the University Calendar. Organized a Celebration of Integral Humanism day – 2019 in Commemoration of Birth anniversary of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay on 25.09.2019. Celebrated the Integral Humanism day – 2020 in Commemoration of Birth anniversary of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay through virtual on 25.09.2020. Literary Competitions for ‘Integral Humanism Day – 2019’ Celebrations.

In view of the ‘Integral Humanism Day – 2019’ celebrations, Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Chair of Alagappa University has organized two literary competitions, on 20th September2019.

1. Essay Writing competition on ‘Integral Humanism: A Bridge between Tradition and Modernity’.
2. Paper Presentation competition on ‘Integral Humanism for Sustainable Development’.

52 Students and 35 students of various Departments of Alagappa University have participated in the essay writing and paper presentation competitions respectively.

Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Study Group

One of the major objectives behind the Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Chair is to disseminate the ideologies and principles of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay among the students / staff of our University and Affiliated Colleges and the society at large.

For this practice, with the permission of the University, ‘Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Study Group’ has been created comprising of interested Faculty members of our University and Affiliated Colleges.

So far, 36 Professors of Alagappa University have enrolled themselves in this ‘Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Study Group’.

Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Youth Cadets

In order to disseminate the ideologies and principles of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay among the students of our University and in turn to the society at large, a group of "Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Youth Cadets" has been created comprising of the interested students of our University Departments.

The above mentioned Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Youth Cadets will be imparted with the ideologies and principles of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay through special lectures / seminars / interaction with experts / gatherings and in turn these Youth Cadets will disseminate the same to the other students of our University, Affiliated Colleges and to the Society.

So far, 50 students of various Departments of Alagappa University have enrolled themselves in this "Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Youth Cadets".

Creation of WhatsApp Group for disseminating the Ideologies of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay

A WhatsApp group has been created comprising of the members of "Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Study Group" towards disseminating the Ideologies of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay. Political and economic views of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay have been shared among the members on daily basis.

Creation of Web Blog

A Web Blog has been created with the URL www.alupdduc.in towards disseminating the works, pictures, documents and the philosophies of Pt. deendayal Upadhyay through digital media.
