Genesis


The Department of Disaster Management is a new Department established in the academicyear 2019-20. The study of disaster management is a felt need of the hour ascatastrophes are increasingly experienced due to climate change. The Department has developed cutting-edge teaching and research methods to provide the oretical and practical perspectives on disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.

Teaching pedagogy in disaster management focuses on preparing students to effectively prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and emergencies. Teaching methods includes, Lectures and Presentations, case studies, field work and site visits, simulation and exercises, Role-playing and debates, group projects, project viva.

By integrating these diverse teaching pedagogies, disaster management education aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to effectively address the complex challenges of disasters and emergencies in diverse contexts. The students undertake a Training-cum-Project assignment with different Corporate and Non-Governmental Organizations, as a requirement of their curriculum, for a period of two months.

Mission
  1. To educate the students with a thorough understanding of the principles, theories, and concepts underlying disaster management, including risk assessment, hazard identification, emergency planning, and crisis communication.
  2. To foster training and research in disaster management.
  3. To disseminate information to the public through awareness programmes on effective disaster management and to assist the governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) during times of disaster.
EXCLUSIVE FEATURES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Department currently offers a two-year full-time M.B.A., Programme in Disaster Management with a strong interdisciplinary focus. Besides class-room lectures, the course offers a unique set of hands-on training on various aspects of disaster management such as mitigation, response and recovery. Another unique feature of the course is its fieldwork component through which students learn to apply cutting-edge research techniques to explore and understand the nuances of disaster management and allied activities. This program focus is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the complexities of managing disasters and emergencies within various organizational contexts. This specialized MBA program combines principles of business administration with concepts of disaster management, preparing students for leadership roles in the field.

Eligibility for Admission

Students who have passed any undergraduate degree are eligible for admission to the M.B.A., Disaster Management Programme. The students not exceeding 50 in number will be admitted to this Programme. Those who are waiting for the results of final semester examination can also apply for this Programme. The students will be selected based on their marks scored in the UG Programme/entrance examination, group discussion and personal interview.

Reading Room

Students have access to a separate reading room. The reading room consists of good number of business magazines and newspapers.

LIBRARY

The Department is provided with a library common to the School of Management, it has a good collection of books and journals in disaster management. It also subscribes to Journals and Magazines of national & international importance. The students of Disaster Management also have access to the central library of the University, which has an extensive and excellent collection of books and journals in management and allied fields.

Class Rooms

The classrooms are well equipped with all the facilities such as LCD Projector, Over Head Projectors, Audio – Video Equipments.
Our students are also provided with Smart class room equipped with Interactive boards.

Computer Centre
  1. A modernized computer centre that houses 71 computers, with latest configuration to cater the needs of the student’s common for the School of Management. The computers are provided with the latest software and operating systems.
  2. High speed Broad Band Internet connectivity is provided in the Centre with Wi-Fi connection. The entire campus of School of Management is enabled with high speed Wi-Fi connection.
  3. The computer centre remains flexible to the needs of the students and is kept active through UPS and Generator.
Seminar Hall

The Department has a good ventilated and illuminated Seminar Hall for organizing guest lecturers & meetings, seminars and conferences.

Industrial Visits

The Department provides opportunities to visit various industries and organizations in the State and neighboring States. The students are also taken for a National level Industrial-cum-Educational tour for a period of 5 days.

The Placement Cell also offers assistance to the students by arranging for their Summer Placement programme, at the end of their Second Semester.
