Genesis

The Department of Theatre and Film Studies was established in the year 2019 as the theatre and cinema are the two powerful mediums for storytelling, cultural exploration and social commentary. It is a matter of pride that among the state universities and colleges in Tamil Nadu, Alagappa University has the distinction of starting this department catering to the passion of many youngsters. Since its inspection, the department is dedicated to providing a dynamic and enriching academic environment that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical skills, preparing students for successful careers and making meaningful contributions to the fields of arts and entertainment industry.

The department offers M.A. Theatre and Film Studies Programme. It is committed to upholding the academic standards and the curriculum is designed in such a way to encompass both traditional and modern approaches and recent trends equipping the learners with the tools they need to excel in their chosen fields. The department provides an avenue to celebrate creativity and innovation and encourages the students to explore new ideas, experiment with different techniques, and push the boundaries of artistic expression to greater heights. Through hands-on training, collaborative projects, and mentorship from experienced faculty and resource persons, the department empowers students to find their unique talents and make meaningful contributions to the world of theatre arts and film studies. Student Council
