It is a matter of pride and pleasure to issue this message from my desk. I took charge as the eighth Vice-Chancellor of this University on 27th September 2010. At the outset, while conveying my best regards to every stakeholder of Alagappa Family and committing my thought, word and action to the uplift of the great Institution, I earnestly seek all your ability, benefaction, contribution and dedication to take Alagappa University to greater glorious heights.

Alagappa University has emerged as a centre of excellence in world class education, research and outreach activities. Established by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1985, taking over selected entities from a galaxy of institutions floated by the munificent philanthropist and educationist Vallal Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar, this seat of higher learning caters to the intellectual needs of the people and commits to empowering the learners to deliver their best. The University strives to achieve its motto 'Excellence in Action'.

The Vision and Mission of the University depict an enviable scheme of zealous pursuits of the University in the field of higher education relevant to individual, societal and national uplift. Padmabushan Dr.Rm. Alagappa Chettiar said, 'My happiness is boundless, limitless, because my happiness does not consist naturally in my own happiness, but my happiness consists in the happiness of thousands of students young and old, boy and girl who read in our vast educational campus'. To achieve this 'limitless happiness' he bequeathed all his wealth for establishing education and research institutions and that made Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru describing Dr.Rm. Alagappa Chettiar as Social Capitalist, a rare tribute by a rare personality to a rare human-being. Let each of us commit to espouse the ideals of Vallal Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar. Alagappa University achieves its thrust goals mainly through 4Ps.

Program Contours
Alagappa University offers Research, PG, UG, Diploma and Certificate Programs totaling close to 250 through Regular, Evening, Week-end, Collaborative and Distance modes. Each program is well designed with Educational, Social, Technological, Environmental and Economic concerns, with thrust on human resource development.

Physical Resources
Alagappa University has the vast expanse of around 430 acres of land with rich array of built-structures, paved roads, blooming gardens, play fields and best-in-class facilities, including smart class-rooms, state-of-the art scientific equipment like Confocal Microscope and Real Time PCR, to support its current and future academic and research pursuits. Alagappa University commits to provide the best and pleasant learning experience.

Personnel Acumen
This educational edifice is enriched with highly qualified, experienced and passionate faculty members who have excelled in their own field of specialization through research and learning acknowledged by National and International academic / research bodies as well. The University is blessed with committed administrative staff members who serve with great caliber and involvement enabling the University to carve out the 'best-in-class' position.

Progressive Culture
The faculty members of the University have progressive culture with interest in project/consultancy/collaboration. With financial support from national/international research institutions like DST, DBT, UGC, CSIR, ICMR, DRDO, MHRD, UNESCO, etc., various research projects are carried out. Currently 70 projects with external funding to the tune of Rs.1400 lakhs are on-going. Recently the DST has granted a research grant of Rs.650 lakhs based on research publications. The AURF promotes project culture through internal funds.

My earnest prayers and hopes are that Alagappa University scales enchanting new heights all the time to assure stakeholder delight through matchless professionalism exhibited in terms of strong purpose, sincere efforts, steadfast direction and skillful execution.
