Dr. S. Karutha Pandian, Professor & Head of the Department of Biotechnology has been holding additional charge as Dean (Research) since 04 Nov 2010.


Area of Research:

  • Regulation of virulence factors of Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A Streptococcus) with special reference to biofilm formation.
  • Screening, characterization and evaluation of novel anti-quorum sensing and antibiofilm compounds against human and aquaculture pathogens from marine resources.
  • Molecular cataloguing and bioprospecting of bacterial diversity associated with various ecosystems of Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay through culture dependent and independent (including metagenomics) approaches.
